The layer it reaches

Energy is sent to the SMAS, the superficial muscular aponeurotic system, a deep muscle layer against bone. It is the same layer used in a surgical facelift. HIFU is not surgery.

The energy creates tiny points you cannot see, and the skin responds with collagen. The aims are a firmer feel, shallower lines, clarity, care of red or dark marks, and tighter pores. Results vary.

Discomfort and numbing

It is quite uncomfortable. Newer devices are less so than older ones, but the energy is deep, above the bone, so some pain is expected. Numbing cream left on for 40–45 minutes reduces it. It does not remove it.

How many visits, and how long

  • A treatment takes 20–60 minutes.
  • About once a month, at least twice, then a third visit about 2 months after the second. Another option is at least two treatments in the first month, and a third after 2 months.
  • A single visit is described as lasting no more than about 6 months. From two visits upward the clinic talks about up to a year. That is not a duration for every person.

Questions

Is one session enough?

The clinic says one session often lasts no more than 6 months, and suggests at least two before talking about a longer interval.

Can I treat only the neck?

Half face, full face and neck are on the menu. The doctor checks whether that area is suitable.
