What the clinic describes afterwards

Anaesthetic is injected or applied first. Afterwards a little fibrosis and collagen form along the threads. Skin may look firmer straight after treatment and continue to change over the following weeks. Results vary by individual. There may be some soreness, but most people can see others and work.

Duration is not the same for everyone, and this is not a surgical facelift.

Two threads

Young Adult

A larger barbed, cog-style thread for very crepey or lax skin. It is the stronger lift and is used to reshape a frame that has dropped. About 3–5 threads a side are used on the face, and about 3–5 a side under the chin.

There is a single entry in front of the ear. Swelling and bruising are often milder, but a vessel that is caught can swell more. It usually settles in 1–2 weeks. Ice helps. Local anaesthetic is injected along the path and can leave small bruises. The anaesthetic punctures are very small.

Baby Face

A fine thread without barbs, so the lift is gentler and more threads are used, about 25–50 a side. It suits a face that is loose rather than heavily dropped, with the aim of a firmer feel and detail at the folds and mouth corners.

Cream or scattered injections are used first. Because each thread has its own entry, bruising and swelling are more likely than with the larger thread.

Time and discomfort

Stop vitamins and painkillers for 1 week beforehand to reduce bruising. If you are anxious, anaesthetic cream can be applied for about 45 minutes. Threading takes about 30 minutes.

Most people feel a little pain when the anaesthetic is injected. Once numb, threading feels like something happening on the face rather than pain. Cream is an alternative to injections.

After

  • Some people swell and some do not. When swelling happens it is usually within 2 weeks.
  • The clinic suggests 4 boiled eggs a day to support collagen.
  • Leave facials, massage and laser for 2 weeks.

Questions

How long does swelling last?

Not everyone swells. When they do, it is usually within 2 weeks. A larger thread that meets a vessel can swell more, and that usually settles in 1–2 weeks.

How many threads?

About 3–5 Young Adult threads a side, or about 25–50 Baby Face threads a side. The examination sets the number.
